Briefing: Digital Footprint of Agribusiness, Fossil Fuel and Mining Companies in Brazil

This new briefing from CAAD analyses the climate and sustainability claims of fifteen of the largest and most influential agribusiness, mining and fossil companies operating in Brazil. The digital footprint of these companies’ websites, social media and paid advertising channels is scrutinised.

While the frequency and visibility of sustainability-related content vary across companies, well studied discourses of climate delay or forms of corporate greenwashing are present. This includes vague language, nature-rinsing imagery and claims not clearly supported by substantial actions or investments.

Additionally, some companies use targeted digital advertising and influencer partnerships in Brazil to amplify messaging. This CAAD briefing note is accompanied by a data monitor which juxtaposes this messaging alongside some of these companies’ poor environmental record.
